Welcome to Offbeat

Welcome to Offbeat

Admittedly, I’ve never been a big blog person. Not that I don’t see the appeal. I think they can be a wonderful way for people to express their thoughts and connect with one another. To me they just always seemed like more social media. If there is one thing you should know about me it is that I hate social media.

Regardless I was encouraged to create a blog for my business. I have always been someone with passionate ideas and a quiet reservation about sharing them. So I am allowing myself to be challenged and post something personal. Even as I write this I confess that I worry what my friends and family might think while reading my words. I picture them cringing at my self admissions and thinking of where I shared too much or too little. Even so, this is my blog and not theirs.

I suppose that leads me to my next point. What I think this blog should be. I don’t want to overstuff these with personal exploits or long winded tales from my past. Obviously I will post important updates or promotions. However, I really want to focus on giving ideas and resources to you. Whoever you may be. I want this blog to be filled with ideas my students can take with them. I want to highlight albums and songs and performances that I think are important. I want to share with them tips and things that I may not get to share every lesson. And I also want to highlight their achievements.

To end every blog I will share an album. The album of the week. This is something that I have been doing for years as a teacher and it is one of my most important traditions. I’ll start off my blog by recommending one of my favorite albums ever made.

Songs in the Key of Life – Stevie Wonder

As I tell all my students you can love this album or hate it, as long as you listen and have an opinion.

Happy listening!

– Steve Acker
